Perio Insights Article 111: TOP

February, 2011

There is ever-increasing evidence that periodontal disease can affect systemic conditions.  I truly believe it is important to keep up with ongoing research since we are impacting the overall health of every one of our patients.  I have learned so much over the past few months with respect to how periodontal disease affects an array of systemic conditions and how specific perio pathogens adversely affect these systemic conditions. We, as dental professionals, owe it to our patients to stay informed, to stay on top of current research, in order to enhance the treatment we provide for our patients.

I am amazed by how much I am learning about the changes in our understanding of the oral systemic link.  I tend to stay up to date with ongoing research due to my current job position and more fully realize how we can not only improve our patient’s overall health, but potentially save a patient’s life!!!

With the knowledge that we have at our fingertips today, there is no need for any of our patients to suffer the painful and harmful effects from periodontal disease and dental caries! We can improve our patient’s lives!
I invite you to join my online dental hygiene community at www.amysrdhlist.com to participate in daily discussions with the greatest minds in dental hygiene. Please contact me at amyrdh.com as well if you need assistance implementing salivary diagnostics or MI Dentistry in your office.

I look forward to adding future content and thoughts to the PerioFrogz website. I have jumped!
